Unlike #MeToo movement where women sharing their old stories without evidences over social media, #MenToo #HimToo movement is to regain the respect of men in society. As there is no law to protect men from false cases by women, in such situation #MenToo movement become necessity to protect men.
The #MenToo movement under the #IRespectMen campaign was started in year 2017, and the first conference was organized at Constitution Club, Delhi in Sep 2018 for the need of formation of “National Commission for Men”. In the conference Pooja Bedi was the chief guest along with Member of Parliament Sri Anshul Verma (Hardoi) and Sri Harinarayan Rajbhar (Ghoshi).
The focus of #MenToo is more towards rebuilding the respect for men in system, which has been gradually lost due to the feminist movement in India. Since 70’s, the feminist organizations started spreading in India, gradually the law started coming in favor of women and system adequately started ignoring the Men’s issue.
Feminist gradually become powerful in nation that, they are now able to organize nationwide candle march for any crime against women, and able to influence the system, politics and the law.
As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data for year 2016, it revealed that almost acquittal of accused in almost 75% rape cases while more than 86% acquittal in “cruelty by husband”. So considering higher percentage of acquittal, it become more important to talk about false accusation and misuse of process of law.
Not only NCRB, but even Apex court has raised concern about male in various cases of molestation or crime against women. Even after so many observations, system still treating male as guilty until proven false in the “Crime against women”.
Since men’s issue has been largely ignored and also that male do not raise their voice due to fear of loss of social value. So we have taken stand to encourage men to #SpeckUp with the #MenToo or #HimToo movement.
